Burano e Murano

April 15, 2019

If Venice is the adult version of Disneyland then Burano is the ride “It’s a Small World After All.” The island is a colour explosion. I imagine it can be exhausting waking up to all this perkiness everyday but for day trippers like us, it was a visual feast and the best background for the ‘gram. haha

After Burano, we took the vaporetto to Murano, an island best known for its long tradition of glass-making. They say that in the past, glassmakers were considered one of the prime citizens of Venice but this pampered treatment came at a price. They couldn’t leave the island. If they did, they risk being assassinated or having their hands cut off. 😶 History is so interesting. At present, the main canal is lined with shops upon shops of murano glass, each store as exquisite as the next. My sister-in-law walked away with a new elephant to add to her collection.

We ended this full day with a special homemade dinner by Chef Luzee and her sous-chef, Mike. What a welcome to Italy, indeed.
