Pompeii

We hired a driver to take us from Rome to the last destination of our trip. The Amalfi Coast is known to have narrow, steep and winding roads. Didn’t want to risk driving ourselves and honestly, it was more relaxing for everyone that way. Before heading to our Airbnb in Positano, we did a little detour to see the lost city of Pompeii.

April 25 is a national holiday in Italy. You can find most Italians out and about on this day, which you can see for yourself in the highway photos below. Our entrance to Pompeii was free, as all national sites are on Italy’s Liberation Day. We decided to join a guided tour so we could enter the historical site through the group entrance (aka the faster entrance). Turned out to be a good decision as there were no signs whatsoever inside Pompeii! You could end up spending the day just looking for the exit.

There was an accident somewhere up ahead. Apparently, in Italy, they close off the entire highway to allow for the police and ambulance to rush to the scene without hindrance or delays

It was a scorching hot day in Pompeii. But surely, nothing compared to what the city went through with Mount Vesuvius.

Our Airbnb host was so thoughtful. He made dinner reservations for us the night we arrived! The food was amazing! The seafood was so fresh
